Splash Without the Trash organises Ocean & Beach cleans in the Rose Bay beach and harbour area on a regular basis.
We collaborate with Rose Bay Aquatic Hire, who provide their kayaks and paddle boards to us for use during our clean up events. Our volunteers are able to see first hand the amount of rubbish that accumulates in the harbour and on the beaches, particularly the smaller, more secluded harbour beaches that are not regularly cleaned.
Our events are designed to be fun, alongside creating a long-term commitment to improving our local environment. We want Sydney-siders to be able to Splash in an Ocean without Trash!
Our Events
Want to get involved? It's easy - join us at one of our events!
We run our clean ups on a Sunday morning.
Details of upcoming events are posted on our instagram page (@splashwithoutthetrash) and on Eventbrite.
Have questions? Please check out our FAQs below, social media, or alternatively contact us.
Q. What's on the Splash agenda?
A. We will ask you to register with us, then we kick off with a quick health & safety briefing. We then carry out our ocean & beach clean for around an hour. If you fancy sticking around, the team will sort out the trash after our clean up event.
Q. Will I be able to kayak / paddle board?
A. This is weather-dependent. Over the summer months, the answer is likely to be yes...but numbers are limited. We currently operate on a first come, first served basis, and recommend arriving 10 mins before the start time so that we can make sure you are registered for one! We collaborate with Rose Bay Aquatic Hire, who provide us with our kayaks and paddle boards. Please also let them know if you haven't paddle boarded / kayaked before, so that they can brief you accordingly.
Q. Where do you meet up?
A. We meet at the Rose Bay aquatic hire stand - located on the beach at Tingira Reserve, on the corner of New South Head Road and Vickery Avenue, Rose Bay. It's just opposite the Rose Bay RSL Club.
Q. What do I need to bring?
A. Yourself! Plus water, a jumper in colder weather and sunscreen in hotter weather. If you are planning on kayaking / paddle boarding, we'd recommend wearing swimmers, and bringing a towel with a dry change of clothes to get into afterwards (in case you get wet).
Q. Are you kid friendly?
A. Yes - feel free to bring along those mini-environmentalists! We have small gloves available, and as long as they are supervised they can take part in our beach cleans.
Q. You've inspired me! How do I get more involved in cleaning our beaches?
If you'd like to clean local beaches on a more regular basis, then we would recommend checking out Woollahra Council's HarbourCare Program. You can also have a look at Clean Up Australia.
